As usual I read a number of books this year and these are my favourites: The Little Schemer and buy it now. Most of my time was spent doing the exercises, which were very worthwhile. For a Clojure take on it, check Julian Gamble's series on The Little Schemer in Clojure. The book might be a bit hard to find and I consider this derivation to be a bit criptic (though the book itself is great). Racket, formerly PLT Scheme, is one of the easiest Scheme programming environments to set up, making it a convenient environment for learners to use to work through all the problems in The Little Schemer. You will find a derivation of Y-combinator in the 9th chapter of “The Little Schemer”. I just finished The Little Schemer. The Little Schemer arrived yesterday, and I'm now in the second chapter. Scheme手習いがおもしろそうだったので、読みやすそうだし原書で読んでみた。 The Little Schemer. It starts out very easy, which is what I expected, but my hope is that reviewing these basic concepts will cause them to become more solid in my mind.
